FAQs

what is between us?

1

Between Us is a free, 7-week portrait studio open to anyone in the Bay Area. Each week has a new hand-built set and a new theme. At the end, every portrait comes together as a single collective installation serving as a collective portrait.

When is it open?

2

The studio is open Thursdays 1–6 PM for set building (come watch or help pls). Fridays and Saturdays are portrait days. On select Sundays the studio will host photo walks (see the events calendar) and will otherwise be open for the public to come say hi.

Fridays are walk-in, 1–3 PM - no appointment needed. Saturdays are booked slots only. Sign up in advance to guarantee your time.

Is it really free?

4

Yes. Completely free, no catch!

Do I need experience in front of a camera?

5

Not at all! Posing is guided :) you'll never be left to figure it out on your own.

Can I come alone?

6

Hell Yeah! Solo and group portraits are both welcome every week.

What should I wear?

7

Whatever feels like you. When you book, we'll send you a color palette suggestion for that week's set so you can plan ahead if you'd like.

Will I get my photos?

8

Yes! Every portrait from all seven weeks is printed and displayed together as a collective installation, open to the public August 28–30. Come back, find yourself and your neighbors, and take your portrait home with you.
